The proposal is that we make all three of our games (The game ($15), skins ($6), and closest to the pin ($4)) mandatory for members to play that day. The total for all three games would be just $25.
If you're going to be "in the game", then be IN THE GAME. I've seen many players lament about not getting into the closest to the pin (CTP) game when they've hit their ball the closest on one or more of the par 3s. (Scott Bixler x2 on Nov 26th!)
Also, we establish our own handicaps for league play, just using league scores, so everyone can be competitive for skins, especially net skins.
Don't drive out the higher handicappers in our group! This will do it!!!!
So, Ken P, your proposal is to make the "game" optional as well?
I don't want people to think that all these recommendations are ones that I've come up with by myself. Yes, I'm proposing them because it's my responsibility to address member's comments, suggestions, and concerns to the larger group. I personally don't think all three games should be made mandatory but I have to put it out there because several people have suggested it.
Yes, gross skins might benefit low handicapped players more, but the net skins benefit the higher handicapped players more. So it makes things fair and that's why we do it that way.
As for the par 3s, I'm in the same boat in not being able to hit #13 or #16 very often. But, on rare occasions I do and I'm willing to bet $1 every game day in the off chance I do.
Finally, if there are others that agree with Mike Piazza and think the basic game buy-in of $15 is too much, then by all means, speak up! We can't address concerns that aren't brought forward. But, please come with a solution / recommendation when you do.
I think if this were to get voted in then we'd have a LOT of the following!
Sand baggers from the Gold tee's hitting from 120yds #13 were I'am teeing up 190yds
whats next forced round robins,
Thanks MP great comment
Absolutely couldn't be more strongly opposed to this proposal. The $15 basic bet is already borderline excessive. At the last 2 men's associations (including 1 at a private club) that I've belonged to it's $5. For those who don't feel golf is fun unless there's money involved, we already have skins and CTP. Not to mention round robins and who knows what other side bets. Mandatory CTP? There are players in the group that can't reach all the Par 3 greens let alone closest to the pin. Seems like money grab for the more skilled players who consistently hit greens. With skins, half of the money goes to gross skins for which high handicappers are at a distinct disadvantage. Those players are betting the same amount for realistically only half the available winnings. The Association should respect the wishes of those who prioritize fun and competing against the golf course over seeing how much money they play for. I can't see this proposal being adopted, but as much as I enjoy playing with the group, you can probably count me out if it is.
